Anne G. Karnati

Anne Gertrude Karnati passed away on December 29th, 2024 in New York City, NY at the age of 87.
Anne was born in Chennai (Madras), India to Lourdu Thomas and Chinnamma Mallavarapu. She lived in India before relocating to New York with her family in 1986.
Anne was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner at the Cathedral Basilica of St. James in Brooklyn, NY.
Anne is survived by her son Paul Karnati of Hicksville NY, son John Karnati and wife Shanti of Hicksville NY, daughter Mary Irukulapati and husband Vijay of Valley Stream NY, son Charles Karnati and wife Romilla of Brooklyn NY and daughter Imelda Karnati of Brooklyn NY. Grandchildren, Thomas, Anthony, Jason, Tresa, Mia & Anya.
Anne worked as a stenographer for a British firm before her marriage to Shouriah Karnati in 1958.
They settled in Suryapet, India where she worked as a tutor and a teacher. She became frustrated with the existing educational standards, which led her to establish a new school. Her school was a resounding success, competed with the local Loyola institute and received government accreditation in record time.
In 1973, the family moved to Delhi, where Anne’s husband, Shouriah, became a Federal prosecutor. She started over as a teacher and became the first employee for the newly established St.Francis de Sales School in Janak Puri, New Delhi
In 1986 she relocated her family to New York to provide better opportunities for her children. Anne pursued a long career at The Salvation Army HQ before retiring in 2003.
